Australian fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion rejoice!

Australia is getting a touring Evangelion exhibition next year:

"Madman Entertainment, in collaboration with NTV Films, Japan Foundation Sydney, The Arts Centre Gold Coast, and the Gold Coast Film Festival, are proud to announce a 2013 event tour that fans of Japanese popular culture and the EVANGELION franchise will not want to miss.
The exclusive exhibition will offer anime/manga, sci-fi and pop culture fans of all ages a unique and extensive insight into how the famed EVANGELION animated films were created – showcasing a collection of original concept and production art, character drawings and other key artefacts that provide a rare and fascinating glimpse at the behind the scenes artistry of Japanese anime film production.
A variety of rare and valuable EVANGELION books, statues, tapestries and other items will also be on display.
The exhibition will be on display at the Gold Coast City Gallery from Wednesday 17 April – Sunday 5 May 2013, followed by Sydney at the Japan Foundation Art Gallery from Friday May 10th – Saturday May 18th, and finally in Melbourne with a location and dates yet to be confirmed.
In the EVANGELION films - thus far, comprising EVANGELION 1.0: YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE and EVANGELION 2.0: YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE - fourteen year old Shinji Ikari is called to Tokyo-3 by his estranged father, who heads up a secret government agency in charge of the development of a gigantic humanoid weapons system designed to fight alien invaders called Angels.
Despite the emotional burden of not having seen his father in 8 years, Shinji is enlisted to pilot the giant artificial human ‘Eva Unit One’. In the explosive ongoing storyline full of brutal action and primal emotion, Shinji becomes a key member of a group of young pilots tasked time and time again with manoeuvring their towering cyborg Eva Units into combat against a relentless, deadly and disturbing enemy.
The third film of the series, EVANGELION: 3.0 YOU CAN (NOT) REDO will be released this week in Japan and follow at a date to be confirmed in Australia in 2013.
Stay tuned for more information in the lead up to this exciting event."

I might have to check out the Melbourne leg of the tour, if that ends up being the case expect to read all about it in a future issue of Mondo Cool Monthly.

Mondo Cool Game Night

Posted by JerryTerrifying On Wednesday, May 18, 2011 12 comments

Now that the PSN is back I've been spending quite a bit of time getting my fix of online gaming.  Which has got me thinking I need to organize a Mondo Cool Game Night.  Of course I'd want to play games on Xbox Live as well.  But what games to play?  I'll write up a list of games that I have that have online multiplayer but what I'd really like to see is some suggestions in the comments!

I'm on a roll!

Yesterday morning I woke up to an interesting comment on one of my videos.  "Thumbs up if cracked sent you here."  I fired up my cracked.com reader app and checked the newest articles.  The article by Sean Baby is about unreleased video games.  In the number one spot he talks about Desert Bus and links to my Desert Bus review!  In about 24 hours time the video has gotten over 60,000 views finally replacing the singing dog video as my most viewed video.

The Mondo Cool Rating Scale

Posted by JerryTerrifying On Saturday, October 2, 2010 2 comments

Something I've noticed over the past few years is the confusion of video game ratings in regards to reviews. Across many forums and message boards I've noticed that if a game gets less than an 8.0 it's regarded as a bad game and a definite pass if it's a 7.5 or lower. That's not how a 1 - 10 scale works. At all. So that's why I've been using a simplified rating scale for my youtube reviews.

Doo doo game

Ambivalence

Mondo Cool!

Or basically don't like it, you may or may not like it and wow I love it! This scale is in response to the confusion brought on by 1 -10 scales or one of of five items ratings or whatever. How often do you really try to slap a number on a vague concept based on something as intangible as likes and dislikes. Some times you just like something and can't really quantify it. Is that game really an 85%? Or is it an 83%? Who the hell knows?!

If you're going to use a 1 - 10 scale why bother with decimal points? You might as well just use a 1 - 100 scale. I recently heard a podcast that was using a 1 out of 3 scale. They used decimal points so why not just make it 1 out of 30?

I think the simplicity of Like, no strong feelings either way and love it is much easier to relate to. Would you rate your favorite foods out of 100%? Probably not!

Upgrades

I recently found a nice looking little theme to use for Mondocool.net.  What do you think?  Looks about a billion times better than the old layout.  Leave me some comments telling me what you think!

So I spent a few hours changing the host for the Mondo Cool Cast. It's been a tedious pain in the ass but after a few hours of pulling my hair out and screaming I've managed to get everything worked out. I've got a free host, unlimited bandwidth, still able to follow my stats and all that sweet stuff.

So the next episode of the MCC will be posted here and sent out through my RSS feed through feedburner and itunes! Sweet shit! I'll be linking to this page when I put up the next video advertising the MCC...which is cool because I'll be able to link to a much sweeter URL. For the most part everything is very neatly organized here on blogger. So anyone that sees this go ahead and use the link at the top of the page to subscribe to my new iTunes feed.

A ps3 Died in Ohio tonight.

Very tragic news. My Playstation 3 died on me tonight. Very sad. I just started watching a Venture Bros DVD and about 30 seconds in the video freezes and the screen goes black. I hit the eject button and get beeping, I hit the power button and more beeping and the power light started beeping. So I turn off the main power, turn it back on and hit the power button, I get a green light, it flashes red then just starts flashing red. If I hit the power button it'll go into standby, if I hit the power button again it starts blinking red again. Lame.

So in the morning I'm going to actually call the support line. If you knew me you'd know how much I hate making phone calls, talking to people makes me uncomfortable.

I may make a video about it documenting the process of shipping it off. I better get my God damn DVD back is all I know. Damn it, damn it, damn it.

Oh also today I registered a domain name for this blog. The name I wanted was taken so I had to use a .net name. Stale! But welcome to Mondocool.net!
